Community Service

Elder: Francois Dixon

We believe that true Christian service includes attending to God’s people. That includes offering real-world assistance in areas where the people are deficient and sharing our blessings and resources with them.

The Community Services department has many relevant resources to aid the immediate community. Two of our most popular and successful resources are the free shoe and free coat drives that we offer annually. Good quality, gently used shoes and decent winter coats are given out to those who need a suitable replacement for what they had previously.

Other resources that we offer include free food distribution, where members of the community can receive wholesome items in order to prepare a nutritious meal. As Seventh-day Adventists, we firmly believe in the importance of adequate nutrition and wish that everyone is able to eat a decent meal. The Community Services department is also active in nursing homes (providing encouragement and prayer), flea markets (providing unique items and vegetarian cuisine), and a “big brother/big sister” program. We are a rich source of information for local community resources as well, so we can point you in the direction of aid, assistance, and opportunities.

We provide these services to our community with love. Your dignity remains intact because we treat you as a human being, not as someone looking for a handout. If you find yourself in need, think of South Brooklyn Seventh-day Adventist Church as your first stop to recovery.
